Karina has spent most of her life in Arizona but briefly lived in Idaho, where she earned her bachelor’s degree and met her husband. She and her family now reside in Maricopa, where she stays busy keeping up with her two young children.

Outside of her professional work, Karina enjoys some of life’s simple pleasures. She is a big fan of chocolate, loves going to the movie theater, and enjoys taking Zumba classes whenever she has the opportunity. These moments of fun and connection help her maintain balance while keeping up with the joyful chaos of family life.

ABOUT ME

Gradient Background

BACKGROUND

Karina Collins is a Licensed Master Social Worker who works with teens, adults, and couples navigating a variety of emotional and relational challenges. She is passionate about creating a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, process difficult emotions, and move toward greater emotional well-being.

Karina earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Brigham Young University–Idaho before returning to Arizona with her husband and growing family. She later completed her Master’s degree in Social Work through Louisiana State University while raising her young child, an experience that strengthened her understanding of balancing family, personal growth, and professional development.

Karina’s work is deeply informed by her own experiences navigating faith transitions and cultural identity. Having grown up in the LDS faith and personally navigating the process of religious deconstruction, she has developed a strong passion for supporting individuals and couples who are exploring their beliefs, redefining their identity, or healing from religious trauma.

SPECIALIZATION

Couples and Relationship Counseling

Karina works with couples who are navigating communication challenges, relationship conflict, life transitions, and shifts in personal or shared values. She understands that relationships can be deeply impacted by stress, cultural expectations, family dynamics, and changes in belief systems.

Using approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), Karina helps couples strengthen communication, rebuild emotional connection, and develop a deeper understanding of one another.

Religious Trauma and Faith Transitions

Karina has a special interest in supporting individuals who are navigating religious trauma or major faith transitions. Leaving or questioning a belief system can bring up complex emotions including grief, guilt, identity confusion, and family conflict.

Karina provides a compassionate and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their beliefs, process difficult experiences, and rediscover a sense of identity and meaning that feels authentic to them.

Cultural Identity and First-Generation Experiences

As a first-generation American with Mexican-born parents, Karina understands the unique pressures that can come with balancing cultural expectations, family responsibilities, and personal identity. She has a passion for supporting first-generation clients who may feel caught between cultures or who are navigating stigma surrounding mental health within their families or communities.
