ABOUT ME

BACKGROUND
Katlyn Lawson’s journey into the mental health field was shaped by her own experiences growing up and navigating significant trauma, anxiety, and depression. From a young age she learned how deeply emotional struggles can impact daily life, relationships, and self-perception. Those experiences ultimately inspired her desire to help others who may be facing similar challenges.
As a teenager and young adult, Katlyn became passionate about supporting young people who were struggling with the pressures of growing up, emotional health, and finding healthy ways to cope with difficult experiences. That passion led her to pursue a career in counseling where she could provide the kind of support that helps individuals feel understood, empowered, and capable of healing.
Katlyn earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Grand Canyon University before completing her Master’s degree in Professional Counseling. She is currently continuing her academic journey and working toward her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. Through her clinical work, Katlyn remains committed to helping individuals process trauma, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of navigating life’s challenges.

SPECIALIZATION
Complex Trauma and Trauma Recovery

Katlyn specializes in working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma. Complex trauma often stems from repeated or long-term experiences that impact emotional safety, relationships, and self-identity. Many individuals navigating complex trauma may struggle with anxiety, emotional regulation, trust in relationships, or a persistent sense of overwhelm.

Through a compassionate and collaborative approach, Katlyn helps clients explore these experiences at a pace that feels safe while developing healthier coping strategies and greater emotional awareness.

Advanced Trauma Modalities

Katlyn utilizes several advanced therapeutic approaches to support trauma recovery, including Brainspotting, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), sand tray therapy, and play therapy. These approaches allow clients to process experiences that may feel difficult to access through traditional talk therapy alone.

By integrating these modalities into treatment, Katlyn works with clients to reduce emotional distress, increase self-understanding, and support long-term healing.

Clinical Supervision and Training
In addition to her work with clients, Katlyn serves as Director of Clinical Training at Northern Lights Therapy and is a board-approved clinical supervisor. She provides supervision and mentorship to masters level interns, associate-level clinicians who are working toward independent licensure.

Katlyn is passionate about helping emerging clinicians develop their professional identity and confidence while building strong clinical skills that support ethical and effective client care.
